19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
